If You Struggle with Time Management Daily, Will Vacation Be Any Different?

You’ve finally booked that dream vacation, and the countdown is on. You can’t wait to escape the daily grind. But if managing your time in everyday life feels like herding cats, will your vacation really be the relaxing getaway you envision—or just a change of scenery for the same chaos?

Vacation Doesn’t Magically Fix Time Management Struggles
It’s easy to assume that bad time management habits won’t follow you on vacation. But if you’re always running late, overloading your schedule, or struggling to balance downtime with obligations at home, these patterns are likely to continue while you’re away.

Ever find yourself scrambling to make dinner reservations? Rushing through security because you left for the airport late? Feeling wiped out because you crammed too much into one day? These habits don’t disappear just because you’re in a beautiful destination. And heaven forbid you’re vacationing in a place like Disney, where time management is essential.

How to Set Yourself Up for Success
The good news? Vacations give you more control over your schedule than your daily responsibilities do. With a little awareness and planning, you can create a trip that feels enjoyable rather than stressful. Here’s how:

What Kind of Vacation Are You Planning?
Is it a detailed trip that needs your full attention, or a more laid-back, go-with-the-flow type of vacation?

What Kind of Vacationer Are You?
If spontaneity stresses you out, build structure into your trip. If rigid schedules overwhelm you, leave room for flexibility.

No Matter Your Style, Here Are Some Surefire Ways to Enjoy Your Vacation:
Prioritize, Don’t Overpack – Instead of trying to fit every must-see attraction into one trip, focus on a few key experiences and leave space for rest.

Use Timers & Alarms – If time tends to slip away, set reminders for important reservations, departure times, and even downtime.

Build in Buffer Time – Avoid back-to-back plans. Give yourself space between activities so you’re not constantly rushing.

Accept That Things Will Go Off Schedule – Delays happen. You might miss a tour or a bus. The key is to adapt instead of letting it derail your whole trip.

And most importantly, if you struggle with punctuality and organization, don’t expect your kids to be any better at it than you are. In fact, they’ll likely be less adept at managing time, since their brains are still developing. Remember: it’s not just what you say to them—it’s how you model time management that they’ll reflect back to you.

Fun and Play at the Airport

This morning, as I walked through Newark Airport, I was astonished—in the best way possible! I felt gleeful as I stumbled upon something I had never seen before: an actual mini playground, or better put, a dedicated play space for young children.

JetBlue Gate at Newark Nailed It!

As someone trained to see how the world is—or isn’t—set up for children, I travel with an eye that many probably don’t.

This morning, as I walked through Newark Airport, I was astonished—in the best way possible! I felt gleeful as I stumbled upon something I had never seen before: an actual mini playground, or better put, a dedicated play space for young children.

There, in the middle of the terminal, was a play structure designed to engage and delight little travelers. A VW van reminiscent of the 70s, a ship, and of course, a plane. Some of these structures featured interactive puzzle games, like guiding a ball through a maze to “land” the plane at the airport or “dock” the ship at the shore. The space was expansive, inviting kids to move freely—up, around, in, and out—from one structure to another. Just imagining how much joy this space would bring to young travelers filled me with enthusiasm.

To my amazement—and to my daughter’s slight annoyance as I kept stopping to take pictures—I discovered a second play area! This one catered to younger children or those who prefer quiet, rest, and less stimulation. It was a cozy reading nook—a “lending library” complete with a large, alphabet-lined rug, numbers, and shapes. I could hardly believe my eyes!

Beyond these distinctly child-friendly spaces, the overall layout of the JetBlue corridor at Newark Airport had transformed in ways that made travel feel more inviting. Circular wooden benches, some designed for lounging, pom-pom beanbag seating, and high-top round tables with stools created an atmosphere of comfort and ease.

Maybe it was the early hour—5 a.m. for a 7:10 boarding call—but the entire terminal felt relaxed. People were calm, the seating arrangement felt more casual, and there was a noticeable shift in energy. I even caught friendly nods of acknowledgment and easy smiles exchanged between travelers.

This kind of thoughtful design is a game-changer for families traveling with young kids. Long layovers and delays can be exhausting for little ones, and these spaces offer them a way to move, explore, and decompress in an environment built just for them. It acknowledges their needs, making travel less stressful for parents and more enjoyable for children.

When did airports get so cool? And more importantly, can we see more of this everywhere?

Airports Are Tough for Families—Let’s Change That

Airports aren’t exactly known for being the most family-friendly places. They’re busy, often chaotic, and not always accommodating for parents with babies, toddlers, and young children. But as I walked through the terminal, I made it a point to share genuine smiles with the mothers, fathers, and grandparents navigating their travels with little ones in tow.

In the restroom, a mother walked in with twin babies—both under a year old. My daughter happened to be standing in front of the changing station, completely unaware, as it’s not something on her radar yet. I quickly ushered her to the side and apologized to the overwhelmed-but-graceful mama. She gave a kind, patient nod of understanding.

As I washed my hands, I noticed one of the babies twisting and turning on the changing table—predictably wiggly, much to her mother’s chagrin. I smiled and said, “Hi, beautiful baby!”

           “Hiii!” my daughter beamed.

The mother’s face lit up—not just because her baby was being interactive, but, I imagine, because in that moment, her child was seen, welcomed, and adored by a perfect stranger. Just for a second, she wasn’t alone in the busyness of it all. As we left, I wished her safe travels.

“Thank you,” she said softly, still smiling at her baby.

At the gate for our flight to Orlando, there was Disney gear everywhere—Mickey and Minnie shirts, and one particularly cool preschooler decked out in Lightning McQueen from head to toe.

One little toddler caught my attention, rolling her tiny suitcase in all directions, her grandmother following closely behind. As I watched them, I couldn’t help but smile. And when my gaze met Grandma’s, she smiled back—already mid-sentence, narrating the world around her granddaughter, for her granddaughter.

If you didn’t know, or even if you do, this simple act of talking to babies and toddlers—describing what’s happening around them—isn’t just sweet. It’s crucial for their cognitive development. Even before they can respond, they’re absorbing language, building their “receptive” vocabulary (what they understand), which will eventually become their “expressive” vocabulary (what they can say). The more they hear, the more they learn.

So, whenever you can, offer a smile—to the babies, the toddlers, the mamas, the grandmas. More often than not, parents and caregivers get side-eyes instead of encouragement. Babies cry. Toddlers tantrum. Parents are judged. And far too often, it’s mothers and grandmothers carrying that weight alone.

A smile, a kind word, a moment of connection—it costs nothing but can mean everything.

And it’s not just about kindness; it’s about creating a culture where parents and caregivers feel supported rather than scrutinized. Traveling with little ones is hard enough without the added pressure of feeling unwelcome.

So next time you’re at an airport, on a plane, or anywhere parents are juggling the beautiful chaos of raising young children, take a moment to acknowledge them. Hold a door open. Offer a reassuring smile. Strike up a conversation with a curious toddler. These small gestures don’t just make a difference in the moment—they contribute to a world that sees and values both children and the people raising them.

Because when we make space for families, we create a more compassionate, connected world for everyone.

Why Saying ‘Yes’ More Often Can Make Life Sweeter

Saying “yes” more often—both in small moments and big ones—creates more connection, cooperation, and compassion in our relationships with our kids.

I could talk about Disney (and I will at the end), but first, I want to talk about the everyday ways we can live in a place of “yes” and how it makes life sweeter.

I live in a duet with my daughter—it’s me and her. She’s 15 now, and for as long as I can remember, I’ve leaned toward saying “yes” in moments where many parents might default to “no.”

In American culture, we’re sold this idea of independence, self-sufficiency, and autonomy. Because of that, parents often feel like they should push their kids to do things on their own—
“Get it yourself.”
“Clean up your spot.”
“Put your dishes in the sink.”
“You’re closer to the kitchen—go grab it.”

Now, just take a moment and notice how that feels.

And then notice how your nervous system shifts when you read this instead:

Your kid leaves their dinner plate on the table, and instead of calling them back down, you just put it away.
You’re on the couch and ask your kid to grab you a glass of water, and they say, “Sure.”
They’re in their room and call out for scissors, and you bring them over.
You’re both curled up on the couch, giggling about who’s going to be the one to get up next because you both need something.

How does that feel?

Fast forward. My daughter and I had planned a trip to Utah—visiting family, skiing, all of that. But at the same time, friends were going to Disney. Family had just gone at Thanksgiving. Another family we know had just been a month ago. I could feel the pull—the desire in both of us to go back.

We’ve been lucky to go three or four times, but it had been eight years.

Then, with total ease, our Utah plans fell through. I looked at my daughter and said, “What do you think about going to Disney?”

Actually, I need to back up—because before that, she had casually said, “I think I want to go to Disney soon.” So really, what I asked her was, “How do you feel about going to Disney—just you and me? Would that be fun?”

Her answer? “Absolutely, yes!”

And so I did something I’m not always great at—I asked for help.

I used a Disney planner. I connected with my financial planner to make sure I wasn’t being recklessly spontaneous. And in about 30 days, I planned a trip that we’d be leaving for in the next 30 days.

And knock on wood—it’s all coming together with ease. I think it’s because of the support I’ve recruited, but it’s also because I’m living in that place of “yes.”

It’s been a joy to plan this with my daughter. A joy to model calmness while organizing a big trip. A joy to be a single parent who juggles work, home, parenting, pets, volunteering, and two jobs—and still makes space for fun and adventure.

And this is just the beginning—we haven’t even left yet.

           there’s a simpler way

            to tackle this?

Instead of buying new supplies, why not get your kids to pull out the used pages from last year’s notebooks and binders? It’s a quick fix that can save you money and reduce waste.

Her Intuitive Reiki Reading™ was so aligned for her, that she sent me this text:

My client, Jenny Baltazar, was able to hear, receive and joyously celebrate a “truly fascinating” Intuitive Reiki Reading™ from me. She’s a long time client, and once a Reiki student of mine. My signature Intuitive Reiki Readings™ are new to her, and this was her first experience.

My Intuitive Reiki Readings™ are a process of my creation whereby I use Reiki to “read” a person’s energy.

As this happens, I intuitively pick up on messages they are meant to hear, in this here-and-now moment. There are many tools I use to find the messages for my clients:

This service is made for the busiest among us, and I’m pretty certain, if you’re reading this email,

You also get to decide, when you want to listen to your recording. I highly recommend NOT doing it while trying to get the kids out of the house, or with a car full of kids. :D

It is best run a bath, listen to it as you lay down to sleep, or when you’re in the car solo. Even if you’re heading grocery shopping.

One afternoon, I sat down to read for each of them.

For Jenny, I started connecting to her energy through my practice of Reiki.

As insights and intuitive “hits” came up, I recorded them with the Voice Memo app.

For Jenny, one of the “hits” included a direction to send her a link to a tarot reading on YouTube, and which specific segment to listen to.

Once Jenny had time, she sat, lis

tened to the recording and watched the YouTube video. I, specifically, had intuition about which of the 3 segments within the tarot reading that she was to watch.

            And, as she said,

            she just couldn’t believe it.

She's still, "amazed by it." And it

In a recent business coaching session with a woman whose goal to become a nationally-recognized thought leader, this quote came to me as I shared my observation:

This client recently completed her Reiki Training . When she was referred to me, she was looking for support about how to build a business in this entrepreneurial space. She has a full-time career in a traditional field and is ready to live into her fullest potential serving in her highest purpose on the planet.

But, life is doing what life does, which is it moves to the beat of its own drum.

Her pet is ill and taking all of her focus. She isn't able to meet some of the objectives she set for herself. The timeline she mapped out so she could move towards her new career goal, living into her highest purpose on this planet, is being deterred.

            And in the deterrence,

. Those words literally gave her body space to breathe.

through Vector Marketing and did so well, they asked me to open a branch in Buffalo, NY during my Sophomore Year in college, at University at Buffalo, while studying Psychology.

I had

           a lip piercin

g while I sold those knives! So don't let anyone tell you, "You won't be able to sell anything with that thing in your lip!" I did JUST fine!

I also have

           I had a podcast

            with a friend, called

We started it on 10/18/13 - a decade ago! And had exactly,

           70 episodes!

            What surprised you most?

            You are probably already

struggling to manage all of life’s demands

Dinner? Dishes? Laundry? All the kids sports, school and social commitments? Grocery shopping? Pets? Forget about your actual job?

But what's truly tipping you over is the stress of a failing relationship?

            Maybe

all the counseling and couple’s counseling

isn’t amounting to any real, sustainable change?

           you want to leave

but also can’t imagine ending the relationship?

            Maybe

           you want to stay

but can’t bear the devastating trench that exists between you both?

No matter the specific scenario, you’re deeply strangled by the thought of,

           “to stay or to go?”

And who do you even say this to?

            Maybe you have

           a therapist

            ?

            Maybe you’re seeing

           a couple’s counselor

            with your partner?

But none of the anguish is releasing.

Who else is there to talk to?

You've talked to the friends you trust, but they will have their very personal opinions, based on their intimate values, as they're only human.

You've hesitated to share with family because you don't want to worry anyone else and it's easier to pretend you're "fine."

We love our lists. I started teaching my daughter about lists long ago. They became incredibly valuable during the pandemic. Listing fun things we COULD do to fill our days along with RESPONSIBILITIES to balance out the fun. We did this to create structure and harmony for our days, amidst the absolute chaos of that global crisis.

Crises aside,

structure begets a sense of safety

           .

It creates order and that creates predictability.

Don’t we all love when things go according to plan.

The thing about home life, is we need to make a plan and

help teach our children about, planning.

This weekend, I identified that some of our chaos in the am, a place for improvement, is with meal planning - specifically breakfast and lunch.

To add to the hustle and bustle and tiredness of 6am wakeups and attempts to be out of the house by 715am, was always this,

“What do you want for breakfast!”

“I don’t know what do we have?”

Then I would scramble through the pantry and fridge and freezer. I’d offer options.

“Uh, I don’t know I’ll figure it out when I come down,”

            she’d answer after my proposals.

Now double this conversation for the topic of lunch.

Why not plan ahead?

So, we did. Sunday, she set out to list her breakfast and lunch preferences for the days she’s with me, as the other half of the week she’s with her dad.

I can not tell you how easeful this has made our mornings.

           For us both!

I’ll add, I love the breakfast plan for Wednesday. See, our routine is Starbucks Wednesdays, with a girlfriend of hers whom we carpool to school.

Do you see what she wrote there?

Something else I’ve been teaching her for a long time, nutritious eating.

Inside this deep joy and calm, which I liken to genuine contentment, is deep trust in the Universe. I have been cultivating this trust and connection to the Universe since I was a teen. Many different, challenging life experiences harkened my return to and relationship with my own Spirituality.

Reiki became a part of my life after the horrifying events of 9/11.

I was in Boston for my second year of my Masters program, from where one of the planes took off. While I was in school in Boston, both childhood and college friends were starting their careers in NYC. The frenzy and fear to locate them all hung on my heart like chains! At a time when having a cell phone wasn’t the norm, the internet was dial-up and the only social messaging app popularly used was AOL’s IM, I went home that weekend and made the decision to take a year off from school.

While I was home, I visited my local, neighborhood’s esoteric shop in New Paltz. As I perused the crystals, seeking

           solace for my sorrowful heart,

one of the shop’s employees opened up about how the weight of the world can burden those who are particularly sensitive, empathetic and attuned to the world’s energies. This revelation struck a chord with me, suggesting that perhaps this burden was affecting me more profoundly than I realized. She recommended exploring Reiki classes as a potential remedy.

I enrolled in the Reiki Class series, the Winter of 2002.

            From there,

Reiki stayed a part of my life through all the other phases of my life

I’ll never forget the moment I knew my special talent was listening to people and offering supportive feedback. A childhood friend of mine, from first grade, sought me out in high school. As we walked around the school, her sharing her current angst and I offering a safe space to be heard, she said, “

Since 2000, I have extensively studied the social-emotional development of children, particularly young children. In 2003, I began working with over 200 young children in a Head Start program.

            ____________________________________________________
As I delivered

            play therapy

services to individual children at my first position at Head Start, I made this observation:

I noticed that while I may spend 30min with a children in a 1:1 setting, their parent is with them every other hour of the day, day of the week and weeks of the year.

If I am going to truly impact a child’s social-emotional trajectory, supporting their parent(s) in their approach with their child is what’s required.

So I devised my own approach.

            ____________________________________________________
My unique approach of helping parents with their children, is that I work

entirely, and sometimes solely, with parents

. I may never meet with your child. In most cases, I don’t.

Yet,

parents over and over again say they are gaining, noticeably-improved interactions

with their children, and some experience a deepening of their bond.
_____________________________________________________

This is critically significant for your child.

With my approach they do not become the identified patient/client/problem that needs fixing. Children, already, experience tremendous stress, leading to anxiety and depression rates in our country that are only mounting.

As the parent,

           you hold the empowerment

to greatly shift dynamics in your family, between you and your child. And since this is coaching, no one needs to be identified as the “client” because it’s not therapy. This also means no one needs to be diagnosed for us to do the work together,

           as we support your family.

______________________________________________________

A current client had this to say, during just her fourth session with me:

I don’t know what kind of magic wand you have but things have changed so much at home. Less fighting, screaming, yelling.

Things are calmer, more peaceful, and nice conversations are happening at the dinner table, and to/from school.

She added,

"I wish I found you sooner!"

And, to this client’s credit, she trusts my observations, suggestions and guidance. She and her spouse implement the strategies I offer. The change is a two-part process:
my expertise, and the client’s implementation.

I first came to know of Gretchen Rubin and her work at an entrepreneurial conference in NYC called Spark & Hustle created by Tory Johnson during the early years of when I was selling, Barefoot Books.

This is a bit harder to tackle alone, for me at least. I hired a coach to walk me through some facets of this book, because I wanted to be significantly successful at implementing the proposed changes to my health that Anthony Williams writes about in his books.
